My experience

My husband was diagnosed at 58, three years before we'd planned to retire together. I left my job to care for him, and spent the next several years learning about a disease and a version of grief — 'anticipatory grief,' as I later learned it's called — that nobody had prepared me for.

How I can help

I talk with spouses and partners who are caregiving for someone with early-onset dementia, especially those whose life plans got upended by it. I also help people understand anticipatory grief, which is rarely talked about but incredibly common in long caregiving journeys.
