Lost my wife suddenly at 41. Six years later, I can tell you what actually helps.

My experience
My wife died in a car accident when our kids were 6 and 9. I went from being half of a partnership to solely responsible for a household and two grieving children overnight. The advice I got from well-meaning people was mostly useless — the advice I got from other widowers was not.
How I can help
I mentor people navigating sudden loss of a partner, especially those also parenting through it. We talk about the practical stuff nobody warns you about, as well as the harder emotional terrain — dating again, holidays, and rebuilding an identity that isn't 'half of a couple.'
