Devon Okafor

My son passed away at 4. I've spent the years since learning how to keep living.

My experience

Losing our son changed everything — how my wife and I related to each other, how I saw the world, what I thought I could survive. It's been eight years. I don't believe in 'moving on,' but I've found a way to carry it that doesn't destroy everything else.

How I can help

I mentor parents who've lost a child, and couples trying to stay connected to each other through that kind of loss. There's very little honest conversation about this out in the world — I try to be one of the few people who won't flinch from it.
